The sinking of SS Titanic is probably the greatest seafaring disaster of all time. Just before midnight on 15 April 1912, as she ploughed at full speed through the icy North Atlantic, the mighty liner struck a gigantic iceberg. Within just a few hours, the largest and most luxurious steamship the world had ever seen had sunk beneath the waves. Not only was this the maiden voyage of a great ship, it was also a social event as well. The cream of society of two continents was aboard the Titanic that fateful night. Of the 2,340 people aboard, 1,595 plunged to their untimely death.

Published in 1912 in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, "Story of the Wreck of the Titanic" provides a graphic account of the Titanic's dramatic and heart-rending story with facts about the ship, the passengers and the voyage, first-hand accounts of the survivors' thrilling escapes from death, and details of the wreck and the official investigations.

Illustrated throughout with original photographs and drawings, and one of the first responses to the accident, "Story of the Wreck of the Titanic" is a fitting addition to the Conway Classics series.
