It is over 40 years since there was a guide to the navigable waterways of Belgium in the Imray's catalogue. The original and classic Inland Waterways of Belgium by E E Benest was published at a time when the waterways were used mostly by commercial traffic, but like everywhere else in Europe, waterways are no longer essential arteries for trade associated with heavy industry and are being used increasingly by pleasure craft.

Jacqueline Jones's new waterway-by-waterway guide provides all the essential information for navigation, as well as details about things to do and places to see in Belgium's historic cities. This work is based on research undertaken in 2003 and 2004 when Jacqueline with her husband, Arthur, cruised every waterway in Flanders and the French-speaking Wallonia.
